Connecting my ultrasound to a VCR...
The video signal coming from your ultrasound is NTSC composite video (NOT modulated; ie ch3 or ch4) and would be connected to the Video Input on the recorder. Many people make the mistake of trying to connect to the Antennae input. Most consumer VCR's use an RCA jack for their video input where as most medical grade VCR's have a BNC connector for video input. If you input connector on the VCR has threads for attaching the cable then it is likely not a compatible video input .
Another issue we see frequently with new VCR's is that they have multiple input/output ports (video input on the front, side and back) and you have to telll the VCR which port you are using. Somewhere in the VCR manual it will instruct you how tell the system which port you are planning to use.
Since we do not record to channel 3 or 4 you likely will need to set your recorder to "line in" or "video in". Most video in and out ports are simple pass through ports meaning you can go from your ultrasound system video out to video in on your recorder and then hook from video out on your recorder back to your video in on the ultrasound scanner and you can select "external video" on your scanner and see the scanner image that is passing through the VCR. This will tell you two things; 1. your cables are good; 2. you are getting video signal to your VCR and not recording is then a problem at the VCR and not with the system. If you wire the system this way you can also use the scanner as a viewing station to the VCR to review what you have recorded.
